I've been looking at GBB pistols and small smgs, and want some advice on what brand. I've been thinking either a we single stack 1911 with tons of mags, or a kwa with maybe 1 or 2 mags. My price range is ~$200 for gun and mags.

Get a used KWA MP9 or MP7 you won't be sorry. You can find great deals on ebay or the forums.

If you were to get a pistol with a few mags for under $200 get a kjw hi capa the gun is $110 and mags are $30 so that means you can get a gbb with 4 total mags for $200 exactly. If you are lpoking for a high quality gun I would suggest something like a kwa ptp or a kwa usp for around $150 and those mags range from $35-$45.

I just bought a KWA ptp m9. each magazine can hold 24rnds so you dont really need another but the mags are an extra $35 and the gun is $155. Last Saturday was its first day at the Airhouse and it performed spectacularly! (aside from user error ;D) But if you are looking to spend a few more dollars i would go with the railed version so you have the option for a flashlight on it. Which is what i should have done. But if you are just looking for a brand then I would go KWA hands down.

It depends on what you are most comfortable with. You could get a single stacked side arm and a ton of mags for cheaper OR you could get a double stacked side arm and just have a few mags. You could go with a KWA and have it shooting really good out of the box OR you could get a WE and upgrade the crap out of it.
It really all depends on what you are looking for in a side arm. Nothing is better than anything else. If you get a KWA but you arent comfortable with it, then its not going to work very well for you. Think about what you want out of your pistol. There are so many options.
