All right guys, the time has come for me to get a gas gun, unfortunately I don't have a lot of money. My price range goes up to about $300 but I'd like something cheaper so I can still get a few mags. I really like the WE l85s but I've heard there gas hogs, I also like the scars a lot but they cost a little bit more. Does anybody know anything about the WE m16s? I'm just looking for suggestions for good gbb guns for under $300.

Don't buy a GBBR. Money pits that are not reliable and only work 5 months out of the year.

Max is right. They are expensive and don't work in cold weather and you will need to heat your mags after every round to keep your gas from freezing on a chilly day. Also at 30+ dollars for 1 mag and the price of gas they just aren't worth it

I have the we scar Gbbr. I do agree that they are money pits no doubt but they are very fun if you are into realism. As for playing in the cold, they make Hpa mags that would make them more consistent and be able to be played with all year

You use hpa without a fusion engine?

GBBR's are a huge love/hate relationship. On one hand they are super fun and easy to work on. Incredibly realistic and now more than ever, they are very upgradable and more and more mods are also becoming available. Like mentioned above, hpa conversions are on the market, so you can make them much more consistent and able to be playable all year round.
On the downside, they are expensive to build, mags are a pain in the butt half the time, and they are not consistent so it can be hard to be effective at distance.
I've been running GBBR's almost exclusively for almost 3 years now, so I can say this with a lot of certainty. 90% of the time you will be out gunned, mostly by aegs, but GBBR's are more fun to run 80% of the time. (I took away 20% because when something does fail it sucks, and it probably will break more often than an aeg).
In the end, if you don't care about getting out gunned and shot a lot, but just want to have fun, get a GBBR/SMG. Personally if you want out of the box reliablity and consistency, get a KWA, WE can be really reliable, but it takes effort to make/keep them effective. Maintaining these guns will help you big time in the long run.
My Top 5 Recommendations: 1. KWA MP7, by far on of the best feeling, reliable and effective GBB replicas on the market. I just got mine and it's just awesome, haha, simple as that. 2. WE SCAR, if you maintain it correctly, it will run for a long time, thegnome is actually my cousin and he currently owns the WE SCAR I got nearly 3 years ago. With minor upgrades the thing still runs like a champ. If it weren't for the co2 mags, it'd run much better. 3. KWA SMG, Kriss or MP9 have been around a while now and both have proven their reliability and continue to impress all who use them. 4. Unfortunately I keep going back to KWA, while a lot are above that $300 budget, you get what you pay for. The KWA LM4 is probably the best out of the box GBBR M4 on the market, not perfect but dang good. 5. WE M4/16/416(SOL)/etc. these are also really good guns, they need to be maintained religiously, but if you treat them well, they treat you well.
Hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to ask.
Quick edit, most of these can be found used for very affordable prices. Unfortunately most of he time they will require a lot of work to get back in tip top shape, but that is part of the fun!

You use hpa without a fusion engine? Sorry to double post(on mobile, to complicated to edit in a quote), but yes you can. Google Alyan Airsoft and he makes a ton of hpa conversions for Gas Blow Back Rifles.

If you want a hpa tapped GBBR just buy a tipman M4, a mix of GBBR and polar star.

Or a Daytona Gun if you want the hassle of GBBR upkeep with HPA.

I agree with everyone's opinion on gbbr. After running one for a year I went back to aeg. But I too have been thinking about getting back into it. As a play around thing. Not as my primary. As for cold. There are some new gas options that claim to help with that. Nuprol says it works down to 35. And also claims to have a little more kick when it's warm. Also tapping a gas mag for hpa is super easy. They sell valves that replace the fill valve. Only need a screwdriver and a wrench.
