Okay so I just got a Type96 sniper for Christmas from Evike and the website says it shoots 430~500 fps with a .20 bb. I can't find any springs for this sniper that will bring it down to the fields regulations. It also says that it can shoot  380~450 fps with a .28? So does that mean I could just use a .30 bb to bring it down to the fields limit???

No because the field limits for .30g bbs is much lower than it is with .20

Because of a heavier weight bb, the FPS is lowed, however the joule output is the same. A gun shooting 350 fps with a .20 peoduces 1.3 joules. So the same amount with a .30 would be closer to 280 fps. So if your sniper shoots 360 with a .30 then it is shooting too hot and producing too many joules to be safe. If you are still wanting fo get a spring, they have them on airsoft atlanta. Thats where I get all of my parts from. an sp100 should do the job for a stock sniper rifle.

Or you can buy another spring and experiment with cutting it down to reduce fps and noise output.

It's actually quite fun if your bored or willing to really challenge yourself. I ran a fully ghille and a Ares MSR a few times this past year. I didn't really do well, but every hit I got made all the suffering worth it. In fact I'm building a whole new (and much lighter) bolt action because I had so much fun. All I can say is don't knock it til you try it, but I do agree with you, it is kinda pointless.
