Title says it all. Both are within my preferred budget and both run 7.62 mags, which I love lol. It's been over 2 years since I last bought an AEG so I pretty much forgot what to look out for, etc. Which is better, SCAR-H or HK417? Not looking at dumping biog internal parts into whichever I get yet so which is better out of the box?

I'd go with the 417 as thay aren't as common as Scars. Also the Scars stock looks like an Ugg boot which is awful. But it depends on your personal preferance, like do you want to be a DMR (417) or more of an infantry role(Scar).

Like Raptor said, SCAR's are be coming a bit more popular, however I wouldn't let that draw you away from one. The one thing I really like about my SCAR is that the thing is almost completely ambidextrous. The bolt catch is the only thing that's not, but it's an aeg, you don't really need it. The 417 is still a great system, you can't really go wrong either way, but if you tend to switch hands a lot when shooting, the SCAR will be a much more right and left handed friendly weapon for you.

Both the 417 and SCAR-H are ambi and basically have the same internals sense they're both made by VFC. The only down side to the 417 is the the mags are larger than a regular 7.62 mag so you'll to buy specific mag pouches.

Do what your heart tells you... Alright now for my input again SCARs are becoming a bit more common and are now the go to 7.62 rifle. I would personally take the 417 just because I'm an H&K fanboy. Like max said both are made by vfc so they are equally matched internally. Since I know you are coming from an ar-15 platform the 417 might feel more familiar in your hands.

417 all the way. And I'm pretty sure blue force gear makes pouches for those monsters of mags. Plus if you wanted to convert it into a DMR evike carries the 350c kit.
