I don't know if there are any real steel gun enthusiasts on here that have real steel guns. But, I just got a Smith&Wesson .38 special for my CCL and got ammunition for it. Now I've been looking for ammo for this darn thing for weeks...and finally found some at the gun show...Stupidly I got reloads...and didn't think about the grain. They're 154 grain flat nose reloads. Would this be a bad idea to use in a 30 year old gun? (Been fired three times, Pristine condition). I would prefer...NOT...to blow my hand off when I shoot this thing. If it's dangerous...I'll toss all 100 shells . Also the .38 special is a snub nose. Very...Very...small barrel. Any help would be appreciated as I've been researching and have not found much. ~SAPPER.

personally I would never use reloads from a person I don't even know due to the possibly of the rounds being too hot blowing your gun up and causing severe injuries. Then again I would never buy a .38 special since you can use .38's in a .357 magnum.

Those reloads will be fine to use on that 38, I personally wouldn't waste my time asking if they're ok or not.

I use reloads all of the time in my .45 and a normal .45 round is 230 grain, and pakc a bit more to 250gr in my reloads, I have never had a problem. Saves some money when using reloads.
Just point to keep this in mind.. Go to Cabelas there in GR and look at what the normal gr. per round should be, and go from there.

Alright I really appreciate the help guys. Hopefully in the next week or so I can apply for my CCL License and start taking classes. Jut out of curiosity Doc what kind of rounds would you recommend to carry on you? I know I'll train with the rounds I'll carry and obviously going to have it loaded with flat heads for the time being.

I am using person defense ammo in my .45 Hollow points, Either one of these here Hornady Critical DefenseFederal Premium Hydra-ShockThis is what I use for personal defense For training I use the following Herter's Select-Grade TNJAlong with reloads. I hope this helps.
