Alright, its about time for me to get a support weapon. I have been looking up most lmg's for a while now and these are the two that fit my budget and meet most of my wants/needs on an airoft lmg. While the CA has more durable internals, the m60 has a much better mag/feeding system and adjustable rate of fire. I have always loved 249's more than any other gun, but I have been watching way to many vietnam movies and the m60 looks so good. So im basically asking for a little bit about your advice on these guns but also am asking for you to place a vote on these two. In Two weeks I will tally the votes and make my decision. So everyone comment which one i should get.
Thanks for your time

Hello, I tried replying last night, but as I reviewed it I found I really just talked about my 249 and didn't really give you any advice. So here's another go. My personal preference is the M249 for a few reasons. First is that with most support weapons, the box mag is usually garbage, it's big and clunky and the only ones that really work cost $110 by MAG, so I just dumped mine and I run m4/16 mags since all m249s will accept them. I'm not sure if the m60 will but I'm very doubtfull. That's my biggest reason for liking the 249. Really gearbox wise there they are practically identical, and they are solid as a tank and incredibly easy to work on. I'd recommend swapping out the motor and doing the usual re-shim and re-grease as well.
Finally, it's really down to what looks best for you, I'm fairly biased towards the M249, just cause I love mine so much, but if you end up getting one, don't overlook the A&K 249 it will save you money and is just as solid. I hope this helps, if you have any specific questions about the 249 send me a pm , I'll be happy to help.

Honestly, between the two guns it seems like no one keeps them once they end up buying them due to them weighting in at 30lb. You should never buy something just because it looks *cool* because that is a good way to get burned. I've owned both the A&K M60E4 (which I sold awhile ago.)and the M60 VN style along with an echo 1 249 para that I still have. I'll have to say the VN has a much better box magazine then the M60E4 due to the VN having the box mag on a hinge. But, in all honesty I prefer my 249 para. The reason behind that is because it's not as bulky as the 60 and it's an easiy gun to rebuild if you have to. Personally I would never buy a CA version since your just buying the name more then anything. (Yes, I hate classic army due to seeing a few fail on the field.)

Ok. thanks. Weight is no issue for a gun, in fact one of the biggest reason im buying it is due to its weight. Im also not just getting a support weapon for looks. I recently played a day with my friends m60 and found it much mire suitablefor my play style. Thank you for your imput, ill put one down for the m60

I vote for the CA. CA guns tend to be very well constructed and built.

I've been known to have lots of support guns.
ARES L86 LSW ICS L86 LSW M249 Full size and paratrooper M60 VN M60 E4
Yeah I've gone through alot of support weapons. I'd go A&K M60E4 There not as long. Have a bipod and foregrip for stability. Mosfet and adjustable ROF. And you can get complete spare gearboxes off of evike for 90 bucks if your gear box royally takes a dump. Mags I think are better then the M249's. However The L86 was my best support weapon. Bull-pup (Long barrel) Plus some modifying from Maverick let me put a drum mag on it. Just my two cents.

I own and have modified my A&K M60-VN, and I love it. Modifications done were to the hopup, as the nub did not penetrate into the barrel sufficiently, due sloppy machining of the hopup unit. Fixed with parts from a CA hopup. I modified the box magazine for the unit with the following: Locktite on the spring tube that connects to the screw-on connector from feed tube to gun, the spring can work its way loose, melted a new hole in the fabric box mag cover for the feed tube to have less kink and stress on it, melted a hold through the cover to get access to the switch for the box mag feed system, from Auto/Off/OnlyWhenFiring. Added a real-steel helicopter rear sight from a M60-D.
Only negative, you must use good bbs in the box mag, if you misfeed it is a PITA, as you have to dump quite a few BBs, and troubleshooting in the field is awkward.
A friend had a M249 PARA edition also by A&K. I think the build quality on the M60 is better, and the battery compartment is poor for the M249. If you intend to run LIPOs on these, realize that a 11.1 will eventually fry the microswitch, and that the "adjustable" ROF is due to a rheostat that dumps the extra energy you are not using to cycle your gun as heat, does nothing for battery life.
