So, having been a larper before I started in live steel and airsoft, I've seen quite a few things that might be interesting for airsoft. My thoughts recently came to something I saw in a larp not too far back ARROWS that's right, real bows and arrows with a specially made padded "arrowhead" in order to prevent puncturing and impaling. Any thoughts?

Its been discussed in the past and shot down. Simply put, it has too much mass. Even with special heads and such, an arrow still weighs a ton more than a BB. This will cause it to carry a ton more energy and it will be less affected by air resistance, so it won't slow down like a BB.

limit draw weight of the bow and length of arrow in order to avoid some of the force?

Then the arrow won't go anywhere.

Did a little larping myself back in the day, and arrows have always proved to be difficult. Unless someone has done something recently, making them safe usually meant they didn’t work. Most people who wanted to use them ended up using Nerf arrows.

Just to put a bit of fact in here I just crunched some numbers. An average fiberglass arrow is around 400 grain which is about 26 grams. A bb weighing .2 grams traveling at 328 fps produces one joule of energy. Take the arrow weighing 26 grams and shoot it at a measly 50 fps and it carries 3 joules. Triple the energy at 6 times less speed.

On paper it would be a cool idea. But when it gets to the field it would be difficult to use and arrows would be extremely difficult to find if you missed.

Mixing Crysis and airsoft probably isn't the best idea.

Umm, I know this is Airsoft, and it's supposed to be for fun, but I don't want there to be "bow kills," or nerf bows.

I think we should just stick to our guns, plain and simple.
